Mesothelioma and Asbestos Cancer

Fighting for victims of asbestos disease.

Mesothelioma and Asbestos Cancer

Each year in the United States, thousands of people are diagnosed with asbestos cancer. Asbestos cancer most often refers to mesothelioma because exposure to asbestos is the only universally recognized cause of this extremely aggressive cancer in the country.

All types of mesothelioma, (pleural, peritoneal, testicular, or pericardial), may be caused by very little exposure to asbestos. The latency period is, on average, thirty to forty years, sadly meaning that contact with asbestos as a child, directly or indirectly, can lead to the symptoms and diagnosis of mesothelioma as an adult. Similarly, exposure to asbestos while working can lead to the diagnosis of and suffering from mesothelioma as a senior.

Lung cancer is also commonly-diagnosed cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. AMLG is often contacted by potential clients who smoked cigarettes who are worried that they cannot recover from their asbestos injuries because they also smoked. This is not true. In fact, asbestos exposure and cigarette smoking combined are particularly toxic and cause thousands of lung cancer cases nationwide each year. Studies published by the U.S. Surgeon General and others indicate that smokers and former smokers who were also exposed to asbestos at work are at a significantly greater risk for developing lung cancer than those who smoke and were not exposed to occupational asbestos.

The attorneys at AMLG have successfully represented hundreds of mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis victims and their families who were exposed to asbestos through their work.
